The Latest in Homeschooling News The Way Home, V2 , I2 News France Affirms Parents’ Rights To Homeschool Paris, France – The official negative view of homeschooling demonstrated in some major European countries has been given a boost of support this week in France, where a proposal that would have made homeschooling illegal was withdrawn. Apparently, the U.S.-led outcry and the wisdom of the French Minister of the Family helped the French legislators to see the light. In France, just as the United States, poor performance of schools in educating young children is one of the reasons for the popularity of homeschooling. French officials of the education department admit that approximately 80,000 students enter secondary school unable to read, write or count! Similar to the crisis in American high schools where covert illiteracy has been undermining colleges in the US for many years. Three cheers for the French! Now, we just need to have the German education officials see the light and “allow” homeschooling there! Homeschoolers Numbers See Robust Growth Wichita Falls, TX – A story in the local T.V. news reports that between 2000 and 2005, the number of homeschoolers in Texas and Oklahoma almost tripled, while the national numbers grew by more than double! Since these two states already represent a very large segment of the homeschooling population, these statistics are very noteworthy. All of us in the homeschooling world can see how much growth occurs in our own little segments of homeschooling and it is encouraging to hear such nationwide figures being reported!
