JORDIN B. SPARKS (1989 -       )

Singer/American Idol Winner

Born on December 22, 1989 in Staten Island, NY, Jordin Sparks was declared the winner of the sixth season of American Idol on May 23, 2007. Proving that perseverance pays off, Sparks originally auditioned in Los Angeles and was not invited to Hollywood. Sparks returned home where she competed in and won the Fox affiliate-sponsored Arizona Idol, guaranteeing her an audition with the producers of American Idol at the Seattle, WA auditions. At 17, Sparks is the youngest winner in American Idol history.

Sparks’ career prior to American Idol included modeling, appearances in America’s Most Talented Kids, and two tours with Christian contemporary singer Michael W. Smith. As an actress, Sparks has appeared in a variety of plays and performed in several performances with Vaudeville Youth Theater Company and Valley Youth Theater in Phoenix, AZ including two productions of The Wiz.

Currently living in Glendale, AZ, Sparks is a former Laurel Springs School student and attended Sandra Day O’Conner High School in her freshman year before choosing to be homeschooled in order to concentrate on her career. She was tutored on the set during Idol competition and plans to continue to be homeschooled until she graduates from high school.
