Now in it's 17th year, Chamberlains' unique 4-week camp combines an unforgettable performing experience with fine arts activities. Suitable for beginning through advanced, your child will learn the value of teamwork, dedication, concentration, poise, positive attitude and creativity- and a wonderful time! This year's production is the school version of the popular 50's rock n' roll show, "Grease", with performances at Pepperdine's beautiful Smothers Theatre, featuring professional sets, costumes, sound and lighting. Every child will have a special role in the show. Each camper's talent and self-confidence are encouraged through positive coaching of our caring staff. Choose from elective classes such as acting, dance, voice and prop-making, as well as daily art lessons. Participate in exciting theme days and special workshops such as T.V. commercials, Teen Camp on same dates and location.

Since 1992, the primary OBJECTIVE of the camp has been to build every camper's self esteem by providing a richly rewarding performing experience. This is accomplished in three ways: 1) by creating a nurturing, yet challenging, confidence-building environment in which campers are mentored, taught, directed, and supervised by professional, caring staff; 2) by ensuring that each child has a place to shine in the show (regardless of the age of the child), thereby discouraging excessive competition; 3) by surrounding the campers with high quality production values including professional lighting, sound, sets, and costumes, in a professional theater.

The camp combines a fun performing experience with fine arts activities. Last year, campers rehearsed for a fully staged and costumed Broadway musical - Seussical". As the children rehearse, they receive TRAINING in many areas including singing, dance, acting, character work, improvisation, stage presence, movement, voice control, projection, and memorization. They experience working as a team and building trust. The final result is a joyful, high-energy extravaganza in which each participant takes great pride.

Art Lessons are a daily part of the program. All campers receive drawing lessons, completing several projects using a variety of subjects and mediums. Our camper Art Exhibition is always displayed in the lobby during the performances. Often there is an appropriate display at the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art, which the children are able to attend. This Gallery is located directly next to Pepperdine’s Smothers Theatre where our performances are held.

Additionally, campers choose from a variety of ELECTIVE CLASSES such as dance, voice, acting, art, prop-making and others. Creativity is encouraged throughout all activities. Elective classes are usually held twice a week. Although all children participate daily in singing, acting, dance and art, the elective classes are designed to give the participants a more in-depth experience in the subject of their choice.

MUSIC & ART HISTORY specialists pop up often with perhaps a "live" interview with Clara Schumann or a "Concentration" game featuring Impressionist paintings. Past music subjects spotlighted have included Broadway musicals, opera, Beethoven, Mozart, the Schumanns, and many others. Past art subjects have included Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keefe, Monet, Walt Disney, animation, Dadaism, pointillism, etc.

SPECIAL WORKSHOPS, usually taught by Lachelle often include T.V. Commercial Workshop, Relaxation Techniques, and Story Time. Guest instructors in Set Design, Lighting and Costuming are also being considered this year.

THEME DAYS usually include Hawaiian Day, Pajama Day, Movie Day, 70’s/80’s Dress-up Day, and others. Highlights are always the Staff Talent Show & the Camper Talent Show. In addition, the camp features the annual Art Contest and Writing Contest with many prizes. Selected winners are published in the show program.
