Milligan News Company is a book lover’s dream! Milligan has been supplying “educational” books to schools, libraries, teachers and homeschoolers since 1962. But educational does not mean dry or dusty old tomes. . . Milligan has an extensive line of books for readers of every age group from seven and eight-year-olds to 18-plus and every intellectual purpose an inquisitive student might think of.

Their website has a homeschooling section offering over 70 titles, including such books as Carl Sandburg’s classic Abe Lincoln Grows Up; Acing the College Application by Michele Hernandez, which shows a clear path to success for parents of prospective college applicants; How To Write Poetry by award-winning poet, Paul B Janeczko, and numerous other titles for the study of math, English language, geography, science, Spanish, dictionaries, and just-fun-to-read books – virtually every major topic of study and interest.

In their Foreign Language section, they offer the “Animals To Count” book in Arabic, French, Tagalog, Farsi, Vietnamese and more! They have other elementary titles in Chinese, Japanese, Korean . . . you could use a number of books from this section along with a couple of Milligan’s geography books to do an excellent unit study on world culture!

In the main catalog, Milligan offers the Washington Square, Modern Library and Bantam Classics which are perfect for the 13-year-old to 18-year-old student. . . typically found on high school summer reading lists. From 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea through the Mark Twain catalog, Virgil’s Aeneid and on and on! Your older child will devour these great and wonderful books – and at a fraction of the cost in a regular retail store!

For readers fortunate enough to be near the San Francisco Bay area, Milligan has a bricks-and-mortar store for educators of all kinds. To the homeschooling parent or support group leader, this means you can shop in Milligan’s for specific titles just as you would any other bookstore – only much less expensive! For everyone else, there is Milligan’s excellent website, filled with books and materials. MjL
