Umbrella Organizations

The Best of Both Worlds

One of the greatest advantages of homeschooling is being able to develop a course of study that fits your child’s individual needs, talents, and interests. Homeschooling allows you to build on a child’s natural curiosity and develop a love for learning that lasts a lifetime. But, oh, the choices we now have!

There are so many opportunities for learning…so many curriculum options…so many hands-on resources…so many projects and activities available. How do we choose? How do we put it all together?

Let’s face it. Many of us do not have the time or resources to research all the possibilities. At least one third of homeschoolers use an Eclectic Approach, drawing out the best resources and programs to fit the family’s needs. Putting it all together can be a daunting task, trying to figure out how to schedule activities, keeping track of what is being read, and recording the child’s progress.

That’s where a homeschool umbrella organization can help. The umbrella provides a kind of “covering” for your education efforts, and helps you organize and keep records. Unfortunately, to be a part of many umbrella organizations means that you have to use their prescribed curriculum and stick to their schedule. The effect is that one of the major advantages to homeschooling – its flexibility – is lost.

Drawing from our own experiences as homeschoolers, we designed The Sower Academy to provide “the best of both worlds.” To simplify curriculum selection, we offer a variety of curriculum tracks that use trusted and proven curriculum resources. Each track fits a particular approach to homeschooling, depending on the amount of structure and helps needed, the amount of flexibility required, and the family’s educational goals. The tracks are just the starting point. You can customize each one by switching curriculum programs, modifying programs, using a different grade level for certain subjects, adjusting scheduling, and using different forms of assessments to fit your child’s particular needs.

When you register with The Sower Academy, you are assigned an advisor who will help you plan your program according to YOUR concerns. Then we help you keep the records and document your educational efforts. We don’t take over the teaching, and we don’t force a particular program on you. Instead, we work with you to encourage and ensure progress based on the goals we help YOU set. Flexibility and accountability – to maximize your homeschooling efforts.
