Dear Readers: This issue we bring you two more very useful articles from two very diverse sources. Dr. Mary Hood is well-known among Christian homeschoolers for her Relaxed Homeschooler approach. Dr. Hood has many years’ experience in homeschooling, having taught her five now-grown children and also having provided much hands-on guidance through her Resource Center outside of Atlanta. The second article is something many of us prefer to push to the periphery of our consciousness, but is of very high importance – Living Trusts. Diedre Wachbrit is an attorney and homeschooling mother of two, who specializes in family estate planning matters and has significant information to impart to all of us with children. We are very honored to be able to bring such wonderful articles by such illuminating writers to you each week in The Way Home, as well as on our websites. Thank you for reading- The Leppert Family |

By Diedre Wachbrit, Attorney-at-Law The Revocable Living Trust is the cornerstone of many families’ estate plans. Here’s why it is so popular. Let’s first explore what happens without an estate plan. When a person dies, the state has an interest in preventing a free-for-all and making sure that person’s property is transferred to the right heirs. If there is no will, the state provides that the person’s property goes to his next-of-kin in specific proportions provided by law. For example, a spouse always receives half of the person’s property. |
