Accreditation
Accreditation sets common, minimum standards which all accredited schools follow, and is a significant term for students to understand when considering their education. To be accredited a school must meet very stringent standards in the areas of curriculum, staffing, instruction, and the awarding of credit hours. These standards ensure a high level of quality in the education a student will receive from that institution.

All approved accrediting agencies will recognize each other's accreditation. This means that credit received from one accredited school will be accepted universally by other accredited schools, allowing schools to easily transfer credit between each other. Accreditation also provides colleges and universities a standard means to recognize student work prior to college admission.

The Independent Study High School (ISHS) maintains accreditation with the following organizations:
• Nebraska Department of Education
• North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI)
• Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA).

High School Curriculum
ISHS courses are designed by subject-matter experts in a self-paced format allowing students to complete their courses whenever and wherever they need to be. Students can complete courses in as little as five weeks or as long as one year. There are no enrollment deadlines so students can enroll in courses at any time.

Each course is assigned a certified teacher to evaluate student work while new courses are constantly being developed by our instructional design team to meet the demands of our exceptional students. The ISHS offers more than 80 online courses in the following subject areas:
• Career & Technical Education
• English & Language Arts
• Health & Physical Education
• Mathematics
• Natural Sciences
• Social Sciences
• Visual & Performing Arts
• World Languages

High School Diploma
With the ISHS, students earn a fully accredited high school diploma and can choose from our college-preparatory or general curriculum course sequences. The college-prep diploma prepares students to enter the college or university of their choice. The general diploma is designed for students planning for vocational or technical school, or entering the workforce immediately after high school.

Both diploma options give students the flexibility to complete courses at their own pace and graduate on their timeline. And at the end of each student’s program, they have the opportunity to participate in the annual ISHS graduation ceremony held on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.
