Homeschoolers Opt Into Non-college Attendance

In the 2020-2021 school year, the number of homeschooled children doubled. A study by Harvard, from 1999 to 2010 of 12,000 children, found that the homeschoolers were 23% less likely to attend college than public school students.

Some of the researchers seemed to think of this as a drawback, but that is because their livelihood is college. Many homeschoolers become entrepreneurs or practice freelance occupations, such graphic artists, composers, music producers, video game designers, etc., that do not require a college degree. In some fields of endeavor, a degree is not even considered in choosing to employ a person. In the skilled trades world, there are apprentice programs that provide paid training for welding, carpentry, plumbing, electricians, etc. These fields all offer high-paying and rewarding employment – which is something that many college degrees cannot boast. Unemployed college grads abound in 2021, while skilled tradespeople or artists find all sorts of gainful employment on their own.

In the areas of social health, homeschoolers scored much higher than public school counterparts, in areas such as drug-use, overall safety, avoidance of destructive peer pressure, bullying and sexting.
